Anthropic is securing exclusive access to the entire compute capacity at SpaceX's Colossus 1 data center in Memphis, Tennessee, the companies announced Wednesday. The agreement grants the artificial intelligence firm over 300 megawatts of power, representing a significant infrastructure expansion to bolster its services.

The partnership marks a notable reversal for SpaceX CEO Elon Musk, who had previously been a vocal critic of Anthropic. Following recent meetings with the AI company's leadership team, Musk posted on the social media platform X that he was “impressed” and found the members “highly competent” and focused on “doing the right thing.”

Anthropic stated the influx of computing power will directly improve capacity for subscribers of its paid Claude Pro and Claude Max platforms. The firm also expressed interest in a future collaboration with SpaceX to develop multiple gigawatts of compute infrastructure in space, signaling a potential long-term strategic alignment.

In a separate but related announcement, Musk confirmed his competing startup, xAI, will be dissolved as a stand-alone entity. It will be absorbed into SpaceX and rebranded as SpaceXAI, consolidating his AI ventures under one corporate roof.
